It was due to the advice of an UGA colleague. She took part in Miss Columbus, 1985. In the end she won it by kissing and defeating all competitors. On June 15, 1985, Miss Georgia was to be held in her honor. The 22nd of June, she was also awarded the title of winner. Mohr who had won the competition, then went on to represent Georgia as Miss America 1986 in Atlantic City in New Jersey in September of 1985. However, she was not one of the Top-10 finalists for the national title.
